Hi, all. It's been a while since I last posted here (well over a year, I think), but I wanted to just announce a couple of things coming up on the horizon.
My theatre company, Dreamcatcher, is dedicated to horror plays in the old Grand Guignol tradition. We work in an improvisational atmosphere, starting rehearsals with a plot skeleton and devising the work as we go along. The script is then formed during rehearsals, and the final week before performance is spent tightening the sctript and tweaking it to grisly perfection. Our format is to present a double-bill, complementing an updating and adaptation of a traditional GG play with a completely new work written and created by the company. Last year, we managed to get two productions out the door (though we're still working on a non-profit basis - hopefully this will change as time goes on!). Ill health so far this year prevented me from getting another one out the gates in the first half of this year, but now I'm back in the saddle!
In November, we have a one-off showing of one of our exisiting scripts, The Quarry, being shown at the Bit on The Side, Paignton, as part of their Breach of the Peace festival, raising awareness of domesitc abuse. Jack is not a nice guy. His most prized possession is a little black book listing all his conquests - women he has manipulated and mentally and emotionally abused throughout his adult life. When a date with an ex goes awry, and Jack wakes up bound and stripped in the middle of a quarry, he knows that something is not right. But he has no idea just how bad the night is going to get...
Then, coming in May 2008 (exact date TBC), Dreamcatcher is bringing its biggest production to date to the Bit on the Side! Returning to the double-bill format, the auditorium will echo with screams and gasps of terror. Journeying to the faithful staple of the Grand Guignol, the madhouse, we lift back the curtain and expose the dirty little secrets of what goes on when the rules are forgotten and care of the patient is no longer the concern of the staff. Combining a classic Grand Guignol withour own new work, "Nothing to Fear...", this night promises to put horror theatre back on the map in southwest England!
For further information about either event, contact me at dreamcatcher_theatre@tiscali.co.uk - I'd love to hear from you!

Just to update on the above - things have sadly gone awry with the venue in Paignton, and so the November performance will no longer be taking place. We still plan to have a productio of two new pieces in May, although exactly where these will take place is also uncertain at this time. I'll post more as we know more.
